What is Gemster?

Gemster is a cultural discovery and tracking app. It brings movies, TV shows, books, manga, comics and video games together so you can organize your lists and find new works that match your tastes.

What can I track in Gemster?

You can track movies, TV shows, video games, books, manga and comics. Save what you have finished, what you are following and what you want to discover, then organize everything into lists.

Is Gemster free and where is it available?

Yes. Gemster is free on the web, iPhone and Android.

Can I import my history or existing lists?

Yes. Gemster lets you import your history from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, TV Time, Steam, Letterboxd, AniList, Plex, MyAnimeList and Goodreads (in beta; guide in French). Depending on the service, you use an export file, your public username or a connection to your Plex account. Steam also offers automatic syncing of your playtime and newly played games. Read the import guide (in French) for your service’s steps.

Can I export my library and cultural activity?

Yes. Gemster offers a complete, free CSV export of your library and cultural activity: works, multilingual titles, creators, Gemster/TMDB/IGDB/AniList IDs, ratings and their scale, progress, dates, time and its units, lists and recommendations received. It also includes watched episodes and read volumes, based on your recorded information. Go to My Profile → Export my library and select Download CSV. Keep a copy of your journey and explore it in a spreadsheet. See the export contents and steps (in French).

How does Gemster choose its recommendations?

Gemster draws on the works you love, your tastes and your cultural history to suggest new discoveries. Selection and ranking rely on an engine developed by Gemster, without AI. Each suggestion displays a match score that reflects what Gemster understands about your tastes. You can also tell Gemster when a recommendation does not suit you: it takes this feedback into account to refine its understanding of your profile.

Do recommendations rely on generative AI?

No. Our recommendation engine is designed by a team of culture enthusiasts, and AI plays no part in selecting or ranking the recommended works

Do I need to rate lots of works to get good recommendations?

No, you do not need to rate your entire library to get started! Both your ratings and the works you have finished help build your profile. Your recommendations become more tailored as you use Gemster. Importing your history also lets you start with your past discoveries, giving Gemster an initial understanding of your profile.

What is Echo?

Echo starts from one specific work and suggests works the engine connects with it, including in other formats. Each result displays a similarity score relative to the starting work.

Can I use Gemster with my friends?

Yes! Exchange recommendations, find works you have in common and create collaborative lists. With Group Expedition, discover suggestions that take everyone’s tastes into account. And with “Travel companions”, keep a record of the works you have shared with people close to you.

Are my data and history private?

You choose what you share: your profile can be public or visible only to your friends. You can also make your lists private; only you and invited collaborators who have accepted the invitation to join them can view those lists. These settings let you enjoy Gemster while controlling who can see your cultural journey.
